Amulet Size: 30 mm. tall x 40 mm. width.
Material : Ivory

Pra Paya Graisorn Ratchasee Na Gae - Ajahn Heng ( Pim Yai ) B.E2470.

Beautiful carved ivory amulet depicting Pra Paya Graisorn Ratchasee or the mythical Lion Tiger from the Himapan forest. This amulet blessed by Ajahn Heng from Wat Kaodin.

These are both mythical creatures who are said to have dwelt in the legendary Himapan Forest which is said to be located in the Himalaya Mountains. (The word "Himalaya" in ancient Sanskrit means "abode of snow".) It is also believed that the forests are located below the Buddhist heavens and are invisible to the eyes of mortals, who can never approach or enter.

Most of the creatures of this domain are symbolic, for example the Rachasee or lion is king of the forest and possesses a mane, tail, and paws that burn with golden flames symbolizing grandeur and magnificence.

The Graisorn Ratchasee, is a creature with the combined characteristics of a Tiger and Lion. The head is that of the Royal Bengal Tiger whilst the body is that of a lion and symbolizing protection, power and justice.

According to Thai belief and values, Ratchasee is a symbol of authoirity or power. The emblem or logo of Thai Ministry of the Interior, which overseeing all centralized provincial governing organs,is Ratchasee. The coronation ceremony of Ayuthayan kings some few hundred years ago, Ratchasee (lion's) skin is used for the king to sit on while guru monks performing the sacred ritual. Ratychasee is also called Singharaj, stressing on its unchallengeable power.

Luang Phor Heng, officially named  Prakru Pisitsamatakhun, is very famous for his intricately carved ivory Kotsee and Ratchasee  amulets.

These are both mythical creatures who are said to have dwelt in the legendary Himapan Forest which is said to be located in the Himalaya Mountains. (The word "Himalaya" in ancient Sanskrit means "abode of snow".) Most of the creatures of this domain are symbolic, for example the Rachasee or lion is king of the forest and possesses a mane, tail, and paws that burn with golden flames symbolizing grandeur and magnificence.

The kotsee, a creature with the combined characteristics of an elephant and lion, symbolizes great power and strength. In fact this was the logo used by the Thai Royal Defense Department in former times.

Today the office of the prime minister uses both the Kotsee and Rachasee images as official insignia.
Luang Phor Heng was born in B.E.2402, Gaoliew District, Nakon Sawan Province. He was educated at Wat Maha Bhoti Tai by Luang Phor Tub before he was ordained a novice at the age of 14 by Luang Phor Gim. In B.E.2423 he was ordained a monk at the same temple.

It is known that he spent many of his early years practicing meditation and sacred sciences in the jungles of Thailand, Burma and Cambodia. A few years after his return he was appointed Abbot of Wat Khaodin, the opposite side of the river from Wat MahaBhoti Tai

On August the 28th BE 2449 King Rama V who was travelling within the province made an unexpected visit to the temple to pay respect to Luang Phor Heng. As a result many people became interested to learn more about him.

The official royal diary records that King Rama V had said that Luang Phor Heng was specialized in high-level meditation and respected by many people of the province. In recognition of his devotion and hard work the King also appointed him as Prakru Pisitsamatakhun.

Interestingly this is the same name that the King had given to a royal fan which nowadays is retained in the National Museum, Bangkok. Ajahn Heng, passed away peacefully in B.E.2485, aged 83 years.

(Ajahn Heng Paiwan)

                                                                  龍波席( Lp See )

Wat Sakae

(Lp Doo)
